Of course, there is nothing about the strategy of this method that guarantees it will do what we want it to do. Perhaps we will find that all claims can be impugned by a reason for doubt. Perhaps we will find some that cannot, but then discover that they are very general or have few interesting implications. But Descartes thinks that, in fact, this method does what we want it to do, that it allows us to establish claims about the exis-tence and character of the self, God, and nature. [p. 53]
